Dublin 27-29th September 2024 – ‘Wor(l)ds of Change’

Irish PEN/PEN na hÉireann in collaboration with The Italian Institute of Culture and Trinity College Dublin is delighted to present the second edition of the Festival of Italian and Irish Literature in Ireland – FIILI. With the support of Literature Ireland, Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, Embassy of Switzerland in Ireland and Society of Italian Studies. Partners: International Books, NewItalianBooks, Discover Irish Children’s Books and The Company Books.

Title of this second edition is ‘Wor(l)ds of Change’ and will include a rich series of conversations with Italian and Irish authors.

This year, the Festival will last three days.

The opening day, Friday 27^th September, will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute, with a panel on translation organized by Dr James Hadley (TCLCT) including translators Gaia Baldassarri, Lucy Rand and Brian Robert Moore; a panel on funding and literary translation with Lynsey Reed and Paolo Grossi; and a conversation between distinguished author, translator, and Joycean scholar Enrico Terrinoni and Enrica Ferrara (TCD).

On Saturday 28^th September, the Festival will be held at the Trinity Long Room Hub, with an impressive lineup of Irish and Italian writers including Domenico Starnone, Sinéad Gleeson, Igiaba Scego, Andrea Fazioli (Switzerland), Éanna Ní Lamhna, Laura Imai Messina, Rónán Hession, Stephen Sexton, Dario Levantino, Franca Mancinelli, Viviana Fiorentino, Andrea Carter, Fabio Deotto, Celia de Fréine. Among the moderators, Irish writers Catherine Dunne and Neil Hegarty, the Director of the Association Notre Italie (Bordeaux), Stefania Glockner Graziano, and the Director of IIC Dublin Marco Gioacchini.

Simultaneous translation Italian-English-Italian will be available on the 28th September.

On Sunday 29^th September, the Festival will move back to the Italian Cultural Institute and will be dedicated to children’s literature, with Irish author Sarah Webb and Italian scholar Anna Gasperini (University of Galway).

FIILI is curated by Catherine Dunne (Irish PEN/PEN na hÉireann), Enrica Ferrara (TCD), and Marco Gioacchini (IIC).
